04 Girls - OPL Gold and Silver Rankings

Post by ENERGYFC04 on Mon Aug 17, 2015 2:30 pm

After Beat the Heat anyone want a go at the OPL Gold and Silver Rankings

Not taking into consideration Gold age groups et al it remains the same 5 from last year.  Now look at the divisions.

Gold

I have no clue.  At this point will go off last year but i suspect it will change.   I can envision a scenario where the top 3 changes.

1.   OFC - But for a forfeit against Kitterman do we look at this team much differently?  Finished 4th at state cup?  Have they improved?  How long does a bruising style win? I personally think they are more about results than development which has me placing them here.
2.   Parker - Did the loss of players to Griffin hurt them? Really an unknown at this point.  The one girl that went to Griffen accounted for 90% of their scoring (at least against us) how do they makeup for losing her?   Goalie is still fantastic (shocked to see she wasn't pulled up even if it meant Griffin carrying two goalies)
3.   SLSC - Are they healthy?  Have they improved?  Practically same starting lineup back less goalie does continuity help over the long term?
4.   Amos - Early grumblings is they are struggling.  Is it rumor or fact?
5.   NYSA - did they show at Beat the Heat that they don't belong in top bracket?  Tie to OFC white and only beating unity team 1 - 0.  They loss player who did most of their scoring at 8 v 8.   Rother solid coach. Do they pack it in trying to keep games close? Maybe they didn't gel as they are transferring from 8 v 8.

Silver

1.   Blitz - where are they mentally after being screwed by OSA?  Could this benefit them in long run by working on skill and playing properly against slower teams?
2.   OFC White - Personal opinion they are better. Not sure i agree that some of girls OFC dropped didn't belong on first team.   Plus they tied NYSA in beat the heat so bump them up.
3.   OK Arsenal - did they lose players where are they? I'm just guessing below this point.
4.   WSA Red
5.  Unity White - Only lost 1- 0 to gold opl team -
6.  TSC Harding
7.   Sheffield Black
8.   WSA Blue (Former MTSC)
9.   CVFC

Like college football its preseason so anything can happen. Injuries and cohesion issues can take a team down.

oops your right.  Doesn't change my analysis nor meant for insult.   I'll edit the post to reflect norman tied them.  Now, what are your view of the rankings? I would be curious from a NYSA parent's perspective.

Not sure if continuity helped. Didn't SLSC lose both play in games to even get into Gold?

Yes. Lost in very last minute of overtime to Parker. We had 12 players (they had players missing too). Lost in penalty kicks to Blitz with 12 players. All credit to those teams but they were good games that but for a bounce here or there. Now considering the end of last season we did not play well against Parker and with the players we missed it was not a bad showing comparatively.

My thought is continuity is helpful with teams. As probably happened with Griffin this weekend its tough if you are trying to get new players built in.

Us parents would have liked to play. That said, we still have some girls recovering from injuries and conflicts so it wasn't possible.

truthfully, last year we had a rash of injuries that you would not believe. I think i counted one time and we played 6 OPL with a full roster last year. We have had important players out for months. Just a reality we have had to deal with. No excuses but its fact. Unless something happens by Plano we should be healthy and have a full roster for the first time since probably last September.

Not sure.   I frankly hope not lol.    In Plano the second division is perfect and since preseason would much prefer that. Our last player should be back after Plano i should say.

In the end every team plays with injuries so while its frustrating it is what it is. I'm cool with it. Just would like to see a healthy season and what girls could do with a full year of consistent practice and roster.

I think most of us agree player development is priority. The games are a measure of this. Its about putting a W or a L on score board. Some do either consistently. We can all blame the refs, players missing, injuries, weather, sunshine, earthquakes etc. Just start winning more games and you won't have to explain your losses. True?

Partly true.  Also, been no "explaining" other than questions that were asked.   If you don't want to know then don't ask the question.

As to development being a priority i agree and disagree.   Some clubs are willing to sacrifice development at these younger ages for winning.  Some clubs do a good combination while others do a poor combination.   Are games reflective of development?  Not always. We won some games we didn't deserve to last year and lost some we didn't deserve to. That is the nature of soccer.   Further, some clubs play a style that wins at this age but is not developmentally in the best interests of the kids for the sole purpose of recruiting.   At this age W and Ls can be very deceiving as to development.

Read this for more information (by the way the president of ECNL wrote this):

OFC- Have them in top spot because there defense will very tough to score on when 7 is healthy.
Slsc- with the new edition up top I think this team will score a lot of goals, hopefully there back line can hold up against the teams with speed.
Parker- think it will take them a while to gel.
Amous- don't know much about.
Nysa- well what can I say with the loss of there better players I think they would struggle to place top three in silver

Silver
Blitz
Ofc white
Don't care, lol

absolutely. Already been down this process with other children. The reality is u12 means little to nothing in the grand scheme of things. Players move, clubs combine and you never know. My recommendations is enjoy these years with your DD, have fun, praise that child and see how they develop and most importantly build their love for the game.

It always humors me that come u16 parents are still holding onto u11 or u12 glory for reputation. Let the kids develop and grow their love.

Lots of changes this summer. You have new coaches, new players and for most of the teams a change from a small field to the big field. Hard to rank teams this early. If you go by last year OFC and Blitz are the favorites, but Parker could push OFC and win gold. Hard to pick against Blitz in silver, but I will go with Arsenal in 2nd since they have a year playing on the big field.

I agree with slsc04 enjoy your kids but please don't buy into the we don't win because we are working on development cool-aid. Those clubs that win send a lot of kids to major colleges and usually start developing them from a young age. Players win games, and the club with the best kids will win the most. If your coach overplays plays the "developing" card then buyer beware!

that is correct. There is a balance. There is a lot to consider (especially at younger ages) including style of play et al. However, anything you read and coaches all will tell you development is key. Individual success does not always correlate to success when it matters. By the time u14 - u15 rolls around then yes. Either you have success or not and this is important things to consider for players.

However, don't buy in to being the "top" team on u11 or u12 either. Much changes. At these ages older and bigger kids can win but those kids, without proper foundation of fundamentals, fizzle out as they get older.

In the u11 - u13 make considerations is your child getting good coaching? Are they learning to play the right way? Does the coach emphasize winning over playing the right way (ie just launch it to the forwards versus creating plays)? IS YOUR KID HAVING FUN? IS IT SOCIALLY THE RIGHT TIME TO MOVE? Politics - are you over playing your card by moving too early?

Its not about being the best at this age its about becoming the best player your child can be.

Re: 04 Girls - OPL Gold and Silver Rankings

Wow, what a better place to be reminded about the concept of interpretation to fit a desired result versus the true meaning.  So i guess i won't be so vague.

Oklahoma soccer is changing.  Not too long ago TSC was an after thought.  OFC before that. Norman at one time was thought of as one of if not the best club in the state.  Historically, we are currently trending for some major changes on the club scene in Okahoma.  What will they be?  I don't know but stay tuned.

In the end, i don't know what the future holds. If you do then I'm buying you a ticket to Vegas before football season.   What i do know is this.  On this side of the state I'm very pleased with our coaching and development of my DD as well as others. I believe we have experienced some adversity which can only make you stronger in the long run.   Even though clubs have recruited us extremely hard we have a strong group that has been together a long time.   While i don't know what the future holds i do know my DD is having fun and learning and getting better.  She is happy with her peer group and having fun while getting better.   She is not at risk of burnout and is learning to play the right way.   Will she always be at SLSC? I don't know. I would have thought Peyton Manning would always be a Colt but he plays for the Broncos now. For me and mine, we will take it one day at a time.

From someone who has been there and not a complete dummy on all this, my best advise is this: Slow and steady wins the race.  Take it from that darn hare when he was surprised to be beat by the tortoise.

Archer... You posted on wrong thread but I'll respond.  How did I demonize winning?   I hope my kid wins every game.  However I want it done within the confines of best developmental methods.  I've seen more "athletes" have success at these young ages based upon size and birth dates.   It all comes home to roost here in a few years and those who didn't learn to play the right way find themselves reliving past glories versus finding success in high school and beyond.  Read the article on he soccer saboteur I posted.   That's the view I share.   By the way it's written by many on here's beloved ECNL director.

After watching playins, scrimmages and soccer camps i personally think OFC has edge.. After watching playins Parker and SLSC are dead even, SLSC could have easily lost 3-1 against blitz in their game especially at the end in overtime, that little 05 girl was giving them fits.. If history stays true Amos should have his girls ready, coming off of State CuP Championship and seeing their girls at camps they may be the Winters team of last year and surprise a lot of people.. NYSA has a lot to prove, even though they won their division last year they lost all 3 games they played against Amos especially the one that counted the most in the semi finals of state cup! I think it's going to be a great Fall season for gold division!
Silver division Blitz like OFC in gold should be favorite but you never know.. After blitz it's a crap shoot.. Another team to watch out for is Harding, Harding just like Amos really prepares his teams and is a great skills coach! He will have his team ready to play! Unity always has me scratch my head, you wouldn't think they have a chance but that coach knows how to get everything out of them and prepares then really well.. Someone mentioned Arsenal , can't remember if their best player left last year or this year for blitz, either way amazing coach and he will eventually have his girls playing well, those rural communities can sometimes bite you in the rear if you aren't looking! The team I'm interested in seeing is WSA, saw a couple of their girls at a soccer camp and their raw talent was amazing, so much potential.. Heard they brought a couple of other girls over and they may sneek up on some people.. Don't know if the OFC team that's in silver lost anyone but the have a chance as well.. Sorry this is long winded.. Good luck to all this fall season!
